This month, Youth Fellowship is sponsoring its 2nd annual Great Pumpkin Guessing Game, in the lobby! From October 5 through October 25 guess the weight of the pumpkin for $1. Forms and envelopes will be provided. The person whose guess is closest to the actual weight—WINS THE GREAT PUMPKIN!! The winner will be announced Sun., October 26.
Youth Fellowship will participate in the annual Crop Walk on Sunday, October 5 at Flat Rock United Methodist Church beginning at 1PM. Church World Services sponsors “Crop Walk” which is a program that raises awareness and funds for international relief and development as well as combats local hunger. Youth Fellowship will leave Faith Church at noon (immediately following the second service). We plan to eat lunch, prior to walking. We will return to Faith at approximately 3. Don’t forget to bring comfortable clothing, money for lunch, and your walking shoes to church! Come along with us and help fight hunger! (Permission form required) On Sunday, October 12 all donations to Crop Walk are due. See Dolly Cocking in the lobby between services.
On Sunday, October 19 Youth Fellowship will share their summer mission trip to Steubenville, Ohio, at both worship services. For those of you who may be unsure about mission work, I hope our work camp presentation will excite you and provide you with that final affirmation to attend work camp 2009! “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord”. Proverbs 19:17. At 12:15 on Sunday October 19, those interested in attending our 2009 mission trip to Delbarton, W.V. (July 12-17) and their parents, are asked to meet in the parlor for a brief meeting. A $60 deposit is due at this time to reserve your spot for the mission trip. This is a wonderful way to serve God next summer! Youth Fellowship will be having an overnight at the church beginning Saturday, October 25 at 4PM and ending on Sunday October 26 at 10:30 am. (Please bring the items listed on the permission form and register by Oct. 19). Our action packed overnight will include dinner, snack, and breakfast. The group will attend the 9:30 Sunday worship service. Our overnight will include many different activities including our participation in the 3rd Annual Great Pumpkin Festival challenge held at the Trenton Cultural Center on Saturday, October 25. (This event challenges the community to set a record for having the most lit jack-o-lanterns in one place. For every lit pumpkin DTE Energy donates $1 to the First Step Women & Children’s Domestic Violence Shelter). Last year our teens donated 32 jack-o-lanterns at the festival. Pumpkins will be lit at 7PM and the official count will be announced at 8:30. Come and enjoy the beautiful harvest display! If you would like to donate a pumpkin for our challenge please bring them to the church during the week of October 19-24
On Sunday, October 26 Youth Fellowship will announce the winner of “The Great Pumpkin” contest, during the worship service. October 26 also brings the Stewardship Fair! Each committee/group will have a display table in Compton Hall for the congregation to view, between services. Browse around and see what Faith United Methodist Church has to offer you! On Sunday, November 9 from 1-4PM Glenwood Church, Wyandotte is offering a free training program for adults who work with children and teens. This training program is developed by the Detroit Conference and is required of all adults who chaperone at Conference activities like U-Nite, and Fall Youth Rally. The certification is valid for three years and adults can take their recertification class online. Faith Church is in need of trained adults and this training program is not often given locally. If you are interested, please sign up on the youth fellowship bulletin board so that car-pooling can be made available. If you or someone you know is in Grade 6-12 and looking for fun, spiritually engaging activities, we want you! (Bring a Friend too!) Monthly calendars and details of our upcoming events will be on the Youth Fellowship board (located next to the drinking fountains), so check us out anytime. If you have questions, please contact me at the church office 671-5211 or my home at 675-3783 or e-mail me at karinlhis@wowway.com. (New members: I need your e-mail addresses for weekly reminders. Please take a moment to e-mail me-thanks!) Stewardship Sunday reminds us to prayerfully consider where we presently are in our spiritual journey with God and where God is guiding us to go in the future. Thank you God for showing us the way to serve and praise you! Upcoming activities: 11/9-Rake & Run, 11/30 Pancake breakfast fundraiser God Bless you!
