“YET IT LIVES”

Since the Detroit Tigers are not in the playoff nor World Series this season I thought I might soften our disappointment with a baseball joke… “Did you know that Baseball is mentioned in the Bible?” In the Gospel of John it says, “In the big inning”. Truly a joke worth forgetting! But my friends the Word of God is worth not only remembering, but living!

“In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God and the Word was God” (Jn. 1:1). In this season of upcoming holidays, Presidential Elections, busy schedules and unfulfilled summer expectation, our faith carries us. Our faith in God endures. Our obedience to the Word of God endures…

Nations rise and fall; yet it lives. Kings, Dictators, Prime Ministers, Presidents, and even Mayors come and go; yet it lives. Torn, condemned, burned, yet it lives. Hated, despised, cursed, yet it lives. Doubted, suspected, criticized, yet it lives. Exaggerated by fanatics, rejected by atheists, yet it lives. Misconstrued and misstated, ranted and raved about, yet it lives. Its inspiration denied, yet it lives.

The Word of God lives as a lamp to our feet, as a light to our acts, as a standard for childhood, as a guide for youth, as inspiration for the mature, as comfort to the aged, as food for the hungry, as drink for the thirsty, as rest for the weary, as a compass to the lost, as salvation for the sinner, as grace for the obedient. This invaluable “Word of God” is what is shared, spoken, studied, sung and with great humility and hope lived out at Faith United Methodist Church.

In the wonder filled days ahead, in your darkest moments, days of joys, and days of challenges let the Word of God feed and nurture your faith. Our faith in God endures. Our obedience to the Word of God endures…to know it is to love it. To love it is to accept it. To accept it, is to believe it is the means of eternal life with God. We become faithful Christians not by earning God’s Love but by accepting it. We become faithful Christians by reflecting the Word in the way we live and the way we love. It is impossible to genuinely accept God’s Love and not reflect it in our love for others. “Love one another as I have Loved you.” In this fall season, I hope to be greeting you at church where we might share in the feast of God’s Word!

Enduring through HIS Word
